Monday Jan 04, 2021
Monday Jan 04, 2021
“If there's a good laugh, then you get tears to come down [from] your eyes. You feel great and it's because of the release of chemicals, such as beta-endorphins. And then it activates other blood chemicals in the cardiovascular system [like]: nitric oxide. And this kind of tag team, if you will, appear to really lead to the beneficial effects on the blood vessels.” – Michael Miller is a best-selling author, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and an innovative researcher in heart disease prevention.
Taking care of our cardiovascular health should be, and has always been, a top priority. Some of the highlights of today’s conversation with Dr. Miller are:
- How losing his father at a young age impacted his life and career path
- What gets him into the ‘zone’
- His studies and research on how we process fats (e.g. coconut oil, omega 3 fats)
- Some of his earlier findings on how laughter and emotional health impact the heart’s health
- Our physiological response to laughter
- Why it’s better to eat the food than the supplement
- Which foods have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities
- How to manage undue stress
- Tips to maintain good cardiovascular health through nutrition, activity, and emotional health
